Mel Mack - Writer & Director
By the ripe age of 3 Mel desperately wanted to leave home and join the circus. Growing up as a girl in the 1970's in the Deep South, she found the fire that she carried in her belly was incompatible with the existing culture.   Since she was from an ordinary type of dysfunctional family, she escaped in others’ stories as well as those from her own childish imagination.  She still does.    In an effort to create order in her chaotic world, Mel studied psychology and attained a MSW in social work while studying acting. She began writing to seek meaning and healing in her own struggles.     Although primarily an actor and writer, Mel hopes to direct another film soon.  Currently, she splits her time between a cabin in Upstate New York where she meditates in her garden and a home in the French Quarter where she studies the characters who live there. "Touching Mary" was inspired by one such character. There was something very special about a homeless woman that she would occasionally see on the streets of the French Quarter. She hopes to see her again soon and to find out her real story.  Mel has 8 shorts, 2 features and 1 pilot episode in her “story garden” which she tends to nearly every day.
